Other drugmakers, including Johnson & Johnson, have been willing to pay for a generic version of Valtrex. But Rahme said that Publix will pay the full price for a generic Valtrex if the company doesn’t meet the same high of $120 for a 30-milligram tablet of the drug. That price, which will be based on the company’s market value, is $120 for a 30-milligram tablet.
That’s because the company has offered to pay for a generic version of Valtrex for about $70 for a 30-milligram tablet. It’s unclear how that price would have gone up if the company didn’t pay for the drug with less than half of that $70.
But Publix has offered to pay for a generic Valtrex for about $90 for a 30-milligram tablet, and about $75 for a 30-milligram tablet.
